Congratulations 2016 Honorees! 
Each year, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) honors area journalists for their outstanding contributions to the industry and also recognizes community leaders for their efforts to enhance the quality of life in the Delaware & Lehigh Valleys.  

This year’s PABJ Award honorees are:
2016 PABJ Journalist of the Year (Online): Carron Phillips, engagement editor at the News Journal/Delaware Online in Wilmington, DE. He is being honored for his groundbreaking opinion pieces that explore race, sports, pop culture, education and current events in and around Delaware.

2016 Lifetime Achievement Award: Robin "Bobbi" Booker, a multimedia journalist whose editorial experience spans news, culture, lifestyle, business, sports, politics and entertainment, for such diverse outlets as The Philadelphia Tribune,, NPR Books, and more. She is being honored for her decades long dedication to documenting the world of America's Black people.

2016 Impact Award: Cesar Aldama, manager of news operations at NBC10 and Telemundo. He is being honored for his outstanding work and contributions for over 25 years, to news, entertainment and sports. During his career, Caesar has managed news operations at stations in Miami, Philadelphia and Orlando.

2016 PABJ Community Service Award: Cheryl Ann Wadlington,Cheryl Ann Wadlington, founder of the Evoluer House. The award winning fashion journalist and commentator is being honored for her decades long commitment to empowering marginalized girls with the tools they need to become college-bound and career-ready, and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

2016 Trailblazer Award: Ernest Owens is an award-winning multimedia journalist and editor of Philadelphia Magazine’s “G-Philly.” He is also the face behind “The Ernest Opinion” column for Metro US. Ernest is being honored for his dedication to reporting on race, politics, pop culture and entertainment and his advocacy for the LGBT community.

2016 PABJ Media Professional of Year: Aalyah Duncan, owner of public relations agency Alist Events Marketing LLC, founded her company in 2013 and is being honored for her communications work in the arts and entertainment industry.  Her clients have included award-winning artists such as Najee, Joey Sommerfield, Kebbi Williams and Carvin Haggins.   

 PABJ will honor its Award winners at its Awards & Scholarship Reception on Saturday, October 22, 2015 from 6 to 10:30 p.m., at WHYY Studios, 6th Street between Arch & Race Streets, Philadelphia. Tickets for the awards program and reception are $65.00 if purchased by October 15 and $75 thereafter.  Students pay $25.  Click here for tickets.  Monies raised benefit PABJ’s student scholarships, journalism training workshops and community programming. PABJ’s 2016 Student Scholarship recipients will be announced the last week of September.
